Start Point: Torc Waterfall Carpark V 966 848

From the carpark at Torc waterfall we start our walk by making our way along a path through woodland on the northern slopes of Torc mountain for 1.5km until we arrive at the start of the infamous Cardiac steps.

Warning! the steps of Cardiac Hill are not for the faint hearted and will have you huffing and puffing in no time so bear that in mind before you set out.

The steep rise of 200m over a distance of approx. 0.5km up through hundreds of steps brings great rewards to the walker with panoramic vistas throughout.

From the top of the steps, we follow an undulating path to join the Old Kenmare Road which runs through oak forest where the ground is covered by ancient moss, lichens and ferns. Making our way along this old route which was built to link Killarney to the sea. It was once the main route between Kenmare and Killarney and was constructed by subscription. The trail then opens up to views of the hills and mountains and after 1.5km we zig zag our way on a boardwalk to the summit of Torc Mountain 534m. We are rewarded for our effort with the great views of the Lakes of Killarney, McGillycuddy Reeks and the rest of Killarney National Park.

Initially retracing our steps down the boardwalk and the Old Kenmare Road, we descend past Torc waterfall and back to our cars.
