Faha Ridge – Fingers crossed

  • Grade: A
  • Length:  10 km
  • Duration: 5 hours
  • Height gain:  850 m
  • Extension Option@Grade B:

Start Point: Faha Carpark @ O.S. Map 70 Q 494 120

Starting from the carpark at Faha, below the grotto area, we follow the well worn track on a gradual ascent up towards Faha Ridge. When we approach the ridgeline we will leave the marked route and climb to the ridgeline until we come to the remnants of a stone wall.

We follow the ridge over rocky terrain and grass slopes with some scrambling until we suddenly come upon a sheer drop of approximately 15 meters down to the saddle. Scrambling is needed at this stage and both hands and feet are needed to obtain the bottom.

The route than becomes a traverse across and up a mixed rock and grass slope which in places is quite steep. After which we climb up a gully in a southerly direction before making the short hike towards the peak of Mount Brandon.

We return to our start point following the Pilgrims route.

This walk should only be considered by experienced walkers as there is a knife edge arête with exposure and a steep ascent requiring scrambling.

A head for heights is a must!

Numbers for this option will be limited and is at the leaders discretion.
