Dingle Hillwalking Club

Who Are We?

Hiking on the Blasket Islands

Fáilte go Chumann Sleibhteoireachta Chorca Dhuibhne.

Established in 1994, Dingle Hillwalking Club(DHC) is dedicated to exploring the best mountains, peaks, countryside and coastline West Kerry and its environs have to offer. We are a friendly, inclusive club whose members are hillwalkers and mountaineers of all ages, social backgrounds and experience.

DHC is a small club within a local community that enjoys good relations with the many landowners who graciously allow us access to their land. To them, the club extends great appreciation and gratitude.

Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

On our walks, we explore the rarely seen remote countryside, well beyond the roads and fields – places even most locals have never set foot. Our walks range in grade, length, pace and duration, giving our members choice and variety.

We operate a weekly schedule of Sunday walks.

The meeting point for all walks during the Covid-19 pandemic is at the start point of the relevant walk, usually at 10.30 a.m.

Walking Holidays & Weekends Away

In recent years, we have travelled abroad as a club on walking holidays (generally of one week duration) to the UK (twice), Canary Islands, Austria, Italy and Slovenia. We expect to continue this annual tradition for the foreseeable future.

We also have a very enjoyable club weekend away, usually in May, to explore the mountain ranges of adjacent counties and beyond. And of course, we feel obliged to sample the local hostelries in the relevant area!

We welcome applications at any time from  experienced hillwalkers. For newcomers to hillwalking, we have new member intake periods from time to time, which will be advertised on our website.

If you would like to receive information in advance, please email: info@dinglehillwalkingclub.com giving your contact details. You will then be invited to join one of our open day or taster walks, where you will be able to experience a day on the hills and decide if you would like to progress your membership application.

Please note that hillwalking requires a good level of fitness. The following article from “Outsiders” magazine is a valuable and informative resource for prospective hillwalkers:

Hiking: A Beginner’s Guide to Exploring the Mountains

A list of upcoming walks is available on on the “Walks” page of the club website.

For Associate Member applications: Please complete the application form and we will be in touch.

Dingle Hillwalking Club and its members are affiliated to Mountaineering Ireland, who provide a public liability insurance scheme to all our members, along with other benefits such as four issues of the Irish Mountain Log magazine per annum and a variety of training opportunities.

We strongly encourage members to get actively involved. This could be by attending several walks per year, volunteering to lead or co-lead a walk, making suitable walk suggestions, assisting on the committee or with specific events/tasks, or adding stories and pictures of the club’s activities to sharing sites.
