This short easy walk is an old Club favourite. Com a’ Lochaigh is a beautiful spot, accessible but once you are inside you could be miles from anywhere.

We park at Scanlon’s Pet farm; an honesty box is in operation here so drivers should have €4 ready. We follow a good farm track into Com a’ Lochaigh valley. After a farm gate, we turn right off the main track on to a lesser tractor track that winds its way along the valley and gradually up the mountainside.

When this track peters out we head straight to the mountain in search of “the path”, a trail that can be hard to find but once on it it is distinctive and it runs all the way along the flank of the mountain and into Com Beag. Com Beag is a deserted village with a few ruins still to be seen.

After a spot of lunch, we return along the way we came. Alternatively, if the weather has been dry, we can descend along the waterfall to the valley floor and make our way back to the cars. This adds about 30 minutes to the trip.
