Strickeen comes from the irish word Struicín meaning ‘little peak’ or ‘crested ridge’ and is an
ideal introduction to the Reeks.
Leaving the carpark we walk along the Gap of Dunloe road for approx. 1km before
branching off to the right to follow a well defined track. The track zig zags gently uphill
before levelling off for the final approach across some boggy ground to the summit of
Strickeen at 438m.
From the summit cairn there are impressive views of the Reeks Ridge and Carrountouhil.
