Starting at the beach in An Mhuiríoch near the GAA field we make our way to Baile na nGall
where we follow the cliffs along the dramatic West Kerry coastline for 2 km before joining
the R549 past Dúinín/Dooneen pier.
Branching off to the east after 700m to follow quiet highways and byways before joining
Cosán na Naomh, a pilgrimage path which continues towards Mount Brandon. From here,
we have a short ascent on open hillside towards Rinn Chonaill (Reenconnell)
It is all downhill now towards the ruins of the medieval monastery at Cill Maoilchéadair
(Kilmalkedar) consisting of a Romanesque church with its fine carving, an ogham stone,
sundial, Latin cross and associated Priest’s house. Then onwards along the R549 passing a
couple of Holy wells and back to the start point.
