Start Point: Kinard Beach @ O.S. Map 70 V490988
This walk begins at Kinard Beach along the coastline to
Doonties village in Lispole was much easier and moderate, classed in the
grade C rank and taking three to four hours to complete. Thirteen of us
met up at Kinard beach.
Passing An Searrach (a large horse shaped rock standing in the
middle of the sea) we skirt along the cliffside of Bull’s head. Here one can
see a reminder of the past, a fort, and a round circle of a dry stone
beehive type hut which was built in times past for protection from
possible invaders. Here also one has a clear view of the whole of the
bay, stretching from the Blasket Islands to Valentia Island and all the
way around to Inch beach.
We continue northeast towards the Doonties village. This part of the walk is easily
done during the Winter/ Spring months when the rich crop of ferns have
died back. we will reach a number of large green, where up until seventy
years ago was once inhabited but the buildings are now derelict.
Upon reaching Doonties we turn left and
a strenuous short climb will bring us on a road westwards back
to our cars.
