Start Point: Holystone@ O.S. Map 70 Q 015 443
From our start point at the holy stone on Goat Street we continue up Goat St in a northwesterly direction and swing a left at the end of Avondale – a small terrace of cottages, up past Dingle fire station until we see a little stony path on our right which will lead us to the beginning of our ascent.
This easy and gradual climb provides panoramic views of Dingle harbour and as we climb, Slea Head and beyond. Passing Cnoc a Chairn the trail follows an old farm path dotted with sheep along the route. There are some steep sections to navigate but it’s well worth the effort for the breathtaking views over Dingle on a clear day at Scragg.
We veer east and follow a stone wall up to a fence which we will follow right up to the cliffs edge of Coumbowler. This section of the walk is invariably wet and boggy at the best of times, but another gentle climb with great views.
After crossing the fence we head east and follow the cliff edge down a slight valley before making another small rise that will bring us to the the tip of an Binn Dubh before descending to the Conor Pass car park.
We cross the road and follow the green road along the Garfinny river until we meet the Dingle Way which guides us back to our ‘ceann scríbe’ Dingle Town.
This trail is a true delight for the senses and the soul.
