Meeting at the Hydro Road carpark which will be the finish of the walk we will car pool and make the short transfer to the walk start which is located on the Kerry way near the shores of Lough Acoose.
Following the Kerry way along the floor of the picturesque Gearhanagour stream valley through a working farm and past some abandoned stone cottages before an ascent of some 200m to a col where we meet the Lack road which rises from the Bridia valley. At this point we leave the Kerry way and start a long steady ascent to the N.East and An Currach Mór (822m). From the summit we overlook Curraghmore lake which is surrounded by imposing looking cliffs and the Eastern Reeks ridge looming in the distance. Looking down towards the junction of the Black and Bridia valley we can look forward to the 200m at times steep ascent to Caher (1,001m). Carrauntoohil in all its glory 1.5km further on.
From Caher there is a change in direction to the West and a short descent before the final climb of the day to Caher West (975m) which will involve a short section of easy scrambling and some exposure.
It is all downhill from here!. A steep descent over rocky ground for a kilometre before a more gradual descent for the next kilometre over soft ground before making our way down to the shores of Loch Iochtar where we can take in the magnificence of the entire Coomloughra Horseshoe.
The final 2 kilometres is down the Hydro Road and the welcome sight of the cars.Kerry way GR: V761 849
