Beautiful landscape view on hillwalking route Loch Shliabh an Iolair - Sliabh an Iolair - Fán

Loch Shliabh an Iolair – Sliabh an Iolair – Fán

  • Grade: C+
  • Length: 14 km
  • Height gain: 650 m
  • Duration: 5 hours

Start Point: Near Ventry

Starting near Ventry we initially follow a “green road” and narrow country lanes for approx.
2.5 km before we make our way steeply uphill to a mast on the shore of Loch Shliabh an
Iolair, which is a perfect example of a glaciated tarn.

As we climb up along a zig zag path the views get better and better. Once we reach the top
of the path above the lake, we join the bog road that will lead us to the summit of Sliabh an
Iolair.

With most of the climbing over for the day we can enjoy the panoramic views before
starting our descent to Beenacouma which looks over towards Dunmore Head and the
Blasket Islands.

From here we make our way down to join the Dingle Way at Fán and along it back to our
starting point near Cill Mhic an Domhnaigh.
