This is one of Ireland’s classic horseshoe walks and is a pleasant test rather than an endurance one. Mullaghanattin is the tallest peak in the Sneem Dunkerron range which at 773m stands tall above the Ballaghbeama Gap. Due to its prominent shape, some call it Ireland’s Matterhorn.
From our starting point at Tooreenahone there is a steady ascent to our first summit of An Cnoc Riabhach at 534m before tackling a fairly broad ridge to the grassy and rocky peak of Mullaghanattin 773m. From the summit we have views in all directions to the Iveragh, Beara and Dingle peninsulas.
Initially heading in a SW direction before swinging to the south over the tops of Beann NE Beann and Beann S a farm track is gained at 380m which leads us back to our start point.
